Regeneration & Development

Leeds is currently undergoing an exciting renaissance fueled by economic growth and prosperity.

South Bank

The biggest regeneration project the city has seen in more than 100 years. The transformation of the South Bank is set to elevate Leeds to a global destination for investment, living, learning creativity and leisure. One of the most ambitious regeneration schemes in Europe, the project aims to double the size of the city centre by transforming 253 hectares of land - the size of 350 football pitches. The mammoth project will provide over 35,000 jobs, over 8,000 homes and attract workers from across the world. The redevelopment will include a revamp of the road network, the waterfront as well as the installation of super-fast broadband and new public spaces. A total of £8.6m will be spent to convert road space into new green space and improved public realm.

Aire Park

An exciting development which will transform 8.1 hectares of land - including the Tetley Brewery site. Vastint plans to redevelop the area to create a vibrant, well connected and sustainable mixed use neighbourhood. It will be the largest new city green space in the UK. The park will feature a series of connected and diverse open spaces. The Tetley Triangle - which will be bounded by the iconic Tetley building and the Grade II listed Salem Chapel - will be an exciting new and dynamic public event space suitable for concerts, markets and outdoor cinema will be approximately half the size of Millennium Square.

SOYO

SOYO which stands for South of York Road - will further cement Leeds’ status as one of the UK’s most exciting cities. Caddick Developments has poured £300m in the redevelopment of Quarry Hill - which will boast 685,000 sqft of office, leisure, residential and retail space. The development will inject a sense of New York’s East Village and San Francisco’s SoMa districts by transforming the six-acre site into apartments, bars, restaurants, a boutique hotel and multi-storey car park. Work is already underway on two C- shaped 16-storey blocks - named New York Square alongside 9,000 sq ft of co-working space. A large public courtyard between the buildings, rooftop terraces, shared offices, health and wellbeing facilities and ground-floor shops will also be built as part of the first phase.

CITU's climate innovation district

The award-winning Leeds Climate Innovation District has turned a city-centre brownfield site into a mixed-use neighbourhood of 516 low energy homes, available only to owner occupiers, with integrated amenities for everyday life. Straddling the River Aire, the project combines sustainable design and construction techniques to deliver low-carbon living for city centre residents. The first residents moved in in 2019.

Wellington Place

Leeds’s new outstanding urban quarter and the business location of choice  for leading corporate organisations including Sky Betting & Gaming, Willis Towers Watson, Squire Patton Boggs and Shulmans LLP. The 22 acre scheme will consist of a vibrant mixed-use community with around 16,000 people living and working. HM Revenue and Customs has just signed a 25 year lease at 5 Wellington Place. It is expected to bring over 6,000 civil servants to the centre of Leeds. The rebirth of the Leeds General Infirmary Two new state-of-the-art hospitals will be built in Leeds over the next 10 years, as part of the Hospitals of the Future campaign. The Leeds Hospitals NHS Trust will be given a share of £2.7 billion brand new money in a first wave of funding from the Treasury.
